Ovation was developed by the Westinghouse (Power & Water solutions department) that later was engrossed by the Emerson Process Management. System was built on the base of the previous generation system Westinghouse WDPF II. Several thousand Ovation systems were installed over the world, basically on the power plants.
Ovation is ISO 9000:2000 certified.
Several features make Ovation open system:
-OPC - information exchange between industrial software and hardware;
-Web Access View Enabler - interconnection between local and global networks using Java technology.
-COM - component object model;
-NetDDE - dynamic data exchange in the Windows environment (database access);
-X Windows - graphical based remote access to the UNIX environment;
-ActiveX - software architecture that create interoperation between programs and components;
-Excel - reporting;
-ODBC\SQL - for the interaction with databases.
Ovation controllers have interfaces to the different industrial networks such as: Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus, HART. Some of the unique features of the system is a software integration with Allen-Bradley control systems.
